A project of the ACLU of Florida, BetweenMeAndMyMD is a campaign empowering people to fight back against the assault on privacy, reproductive rights and women’s health in Florida.

We believe a woman should be able to make personal medical decisions with her doctor without government interference. We believe that a woman should trust that her doctor is telling her what she needs to hear, not what a politician thinks she ought to be told. We believe that a woman is making a decision for her own reason, that no two situations are identical, and that one-size-fits-all laws could jeopardize a woman’s health. We believe that a woman’s life matters, and that the medical decisions affecting her are private decisions, not political ones.

We believe that any woman in Florida should be able to confidently say “Decisions affecting me are between me and my M.D.”

I have qualms about casting reproductive rights in terms of a decision between “me and my MD.”

Especially with “conscience clauses” allowing pharmacists and doctors to refuse to provide care to women who seek to enforce their reproductive rights, I don’t think a doctor should have as much say as me about my reproductive care.

Decisions affecting me should be mine and mine alone.
