So how does it work? If your Pebble Time 2 breaks, just file a bug report with photos or video, and a free replacement will be shipped – whether you're a day or a year past the warranty cutoff.

Migicovsky is even considering selling the front glass assembly separately for self-repair down the line, echoing Apple's recent move to open up repair options.

This scrappy approach is a gamble, but one that's paying off so far. Migicovsky is betting people would rather trust a small team that owns up to its mistakes than sign up for a year of coverage from a company that barely picks up the phone.
