Verizon suffers regional outage, disrupting service for thousands

Verizon subscribers across the northeastern United States faced communication disruptions Tuesday morning, with widespread reports of dropped calls, unresponsive phones, and lost mobile internet connections.

Complaints started pouring in on outage-tracking site Downdetector at 8:32 AM, with the platform receiving a peak 1,067 submissions about issues with Verizon's service by 10:17 AM ET.

While the number of complaints wasn't enough to indicate a major issue, the outage still caused significant inconvenience for many customers, particularly those in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.

Fiber cuts identified as cause

Later in the day, Verizon revealed that the problems stemmed from fiber cuts affecting wireless service for some customers in Western Pennsylvania. The carrier said the fiber was repaired and service had been restored for all affected customers.

Verizon's statement offered an apology for the inconvenience, with the company expressing appreciation for customers' patience.
