Motorola prepares verizon-exclusive ‘droid razr’ foldable – a familiar design, a new hope
Following a string of leaked specifications, Motorola is gearing up to unveil a new iteration of its Razr foldable, and this time, it’s teaming up with Verizon for a carrier-specific variant dubbed the ‘Droid Razr’.
A return to roots: the droid legacy
This isn’t the Razr 70 Plus gathering dust in the rumor mill; this is a genuine attempt to resurrect a name synonymous with innovation. Back in 2009, Verizon launched the initial Droid line, kicking things off with the Droid Razr – a device that, at the time, boasted the thinnest smartphone on the planet, measuring a mere 7.1mm.

Design continuity, a missing ingredient
The upcoming ‘Droid Razr’ appears to be largely based on last year’s Razr Ultra, sporting a strikingly similar aesthetic. Evan Blass’ recent X posts have even shown a near-identical color scheme. While the Razr 70 Ultra offers enticing features, the question remains: will this Verizon-exclusive model bring something genuinely new to the table – a compelling justification for its ‘Droid’ moniker?

A historical perspective
The Droid line continued with the Droid Razr Maxx in 2012, followed by the Droid Razr M, HD, and HD Maxx in the same year. However, Verizon and Motorola pulled the plug in 2016, effectively ending the Droid era. Motorola’s resurgence with the Razr in 2019 felt like a fresh start, but the prospect of a modernized Droid return is generating considerable buzz.
The stakes are high
Motorola is facing a busy launch schedule, with the Razr 70, 70 Plus, and 70 Ultra slated for release in Europe and India in the coming weeks. The anticipated Edge 70 series – Pro models included – will follow shortly thereafter. The arrival of this Verizon-exclusive Droid Razr (2026) adds another layer of complexity to the landscape. The projected release date remains shrouded in uncertainty, pending confirmation from Mr. Blass. While the leaked video on X is intriguing, it’s crucial to remember it's purely speculative at this point.
Despite the resemblance to the Razr Ultra, Motorola clearly intends to imbue the Droid Razr with a distinct identity. This could translate to a focus on specific features or performance metrics that differentiate it from its sibling. It's a high-stakes gamble – one that could reignite a beloved legacy or fall flat in a fiercely competitive market. The pressure on Motorola to deliver something truly exceptional is palpable.”n
