Youtube's pip feature rolls out globally for non-premium users

YouTube is expanding its picture-in-picture (PiP) feature to all users worldwide, regardless of subscription status, the company announced in a recent blog post.

The highly useful multitasking feature, which shrinks a video into a resizable window that continues playing even when the app is closed, is now rolling out globally to free users on both iOS and Android. For non-US viewers, this marks a significant shift away from the previously regional restriction.

Make sure to update your YouTube app to the latest version on your Android device or iPhone to score the feature eventually. It's a welcome addition for those who often multitask while watching videos.

However, it's worth noting that PiP will still be off-limits for music videos, both locally and for Premium Lite subscribers outside the US. Similarly, it will not work for shorter clips under 10 minutes long, classified as long-form content.
