Ai mimicry: are we fooled by clever code, not true thought?
The uncanny valley of artificial intelligence just got a whole lot closer. Chatbots now converse with an unsettling fluency, image generators conjure hyperrealistic scenes in seconds, and robots navigate their surroundings with increasing dexterity. But beneath this impressive veneer of competence lies a fundamental question: are these machines truly thinking, or are they simply exceptionally skilled mimics?

The enduring question of consciousness
The debate isn’t new. Centuries ago, René Descartes, the famed French philosopher, posited a stark distinction between mind and matter. He argued that machines, regardless of their complexity, operate within the realm of the physical, incapable of genuine thought—a domain reserved for the human mind.
