Amazon luna axes game purchases, chasing new model
Amazon Luna is making a drastic shift in its business strategy, leaving users with a limited window to access their games. The company has confirmed it will eliminate individual game purchases within the platform and integration with third-party services like Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, and GOG.

Amazon shuts down game storefront on luna
This marks the end of one of Luna's most flexible features since its launch, allowing users to subscribe or buy games independently and link external libraries. Under the new policy, users can still access their purchased or linked games until June 10, 2026, after which they'll be completely blocked from the platform.
Subscriptions tied to services like Ubisoft+ or Jackbox will also automatically cancel at the end of the current billing cycle, unless users make manual changes. This reinforces the idea that Luna is progressively abandoning its hybrid model.
The fate of saved game data is also unclear. Users will have 90 days to download their progress data after June 10. After that, the information will be permanently deleted without the option to recover it, with compatibility depending on each game's editor or platform.
The gaming community has reacted sharply to this change, comparing it to Google's shutdown of Stadia and the end of a cloud gaming model after years of adjustments and lost trust.
