Android 17 qpr1 beta 3 arrives with bug fixes and new ui

Google has rolled out Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3, the latest build in the pipeline for June's Pixel Feature Drop. The update is live for select devices enrolled in the Android 17 QPR Beta program.

Beta availability and update process

Qualified handsets include the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, and a broader range of Pixel models, stretching from the Pixel 8 series to the Pixel Tablet. To snag this beta, navigate to Settings> System> Software updates> System update and initiate the download.

Once installed, Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 brings a raft of bug squashes and welcome UI tweaks. For instance, media playback issues causing distorted audio are now a thing of the past, while Wi-Fi connectivity problems have been resolved.

Fixed bugs and new features

Other annoyances exterminated by this update include:

- Widgets vanishing from home screens after rebooting

- Mobile data icon persisting in Quick Settings after enabling Airplane mode

New to Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 is a 'bounce-back' effect when pulling down the Quick Settings tray, reminiscent of the iPhone's rubber-band scrolling.

The Power menu now sports a blur effect when long-pressed or accessed from Quick Settings, a design change previously seen in Android 12L.

Exiting the beta program without data loss

Before installing the update, it's crucial to note that opting out of the beta will prevent future updates until the public stable Android 17 release. However, doing so after installing the beta will wipe all user data. To safely exit, decline today's update and wait for the stable Android 17 drop, expected sometime next month.
