Motorola’s edge 70 avalanche: seven phones, zero breathing room
Motorola just unfurled a seven-sibling Edge 70 roster that turns the mid-range aisle into a crowded family reunion. Three are already on shelf; four more will drop before spring ends, each separated by a whisker-thin spec sheet and a name that sounds like a password.
The headcount is exhausting
Edge 70 Ultra, Edge 70 Pro Plus, Edge 70 Pro, Edge 70 Pro Lite, Edge 70 Fusion Plus, Edge 70 Fusion, plain Edge 70. That’s the full lineage, confirmed by internal roadmaps leaked to Evan Blass. Motorola’s reply to Samsung’s “too many Galaxies” complaint is apparently “hold my beer.”
The Fusion pair already landed last month with the fanfare of a library closing. The vanilla Edge 70 debuted in October, turned heads, then lost them at €699 for a 6 mm waistline and a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. Pre-orders stalled; carriers sent feelers about price protection.
What is coming, and why it matters
Next wave carries codenames Terrain, Terrain+ and Terrain Lite—matching the Pro, Pro Plus and Pro Lite slots. Expect 50 MP OIS stacks, 144 Hz panels, and 68 W bricks across the board. The Pro Plus gets a 5 000 mAh cell and wireless charging; the Lite drops to 8 GB RAM and polycarbonate. Prices start at €449 and crest at €849, according to retailer briefings.
The real jab: none of these will measure under 7.5 mm. The slim vanity play stays exclusive to the already-overpriced Edge 70, meaning buyers pay the thickness tax only once.
Meanwhile the US waits on the sidelines. The Edge (2025) is aging fast; its sequel, logically Edge (2026), will crib cameras from the 70 Pro but ride a down-clocked chip to keep it below $600. A tri-fold Razr 70 family—Ultra, Plus, vanilla—mirrors that cadence, with carrier testing slated for July.
Motorola’s math is simple: carpet-bomb every €30 increment before rivals can breathe. The risk is shopper paralysis; the upside is shelf dominance. Retailers have already printed comparison charts the size of movie posters.
Seven phones, three weeks, one message: Motorola would rather cannibalize itself than leave a centimeter of shelf space to Xiaomi. If you are eyeing the mid-range, memorize the names now—quizzes start in April.
