Multitasking with the Gemini Overlay on Android Just Got Easier

Google has introduced a new feature for Android users that allows them to minimize the Gemini overlay and transform it into a floating bubble, enabling seamless multitasking. This innovation is particularly useful for those who frequently use voice assistants or need to quickly access information while engaged in other activities.

To activate the Gemini overlay, long press the power button or say "Hey Google." Above the prompt bar, locate the smaller pill-shaped element with the word "Minimize" and a diagonal icon of two half circles. Enter your query, whether through voice or text, and then tap the minimize lozenge. The overlay will transform into a black bubble with the Gemini spark inside, allowing you to continue using your phone while the assistant works in the background.

As you multitask, you'll see a message from Google stating, "Gemini is still available while you multitask. Tap to expand. Drag to move or dismiss." This feature is particularly handy for tasks like texting a friend while Gemini searches for information, as you can easily switch between the two by tapping the bubble to restore the overlay and retrieve your results.

When you minimize the Gemini overlay, the bubble will be placed in one of six predetermined spots on your screen, with the option to drag it to a different location. However, a current bug restricts the bubble's placement to these pre-set positions.

This update demonstrates Google's ongoing efforts to enhance the user experience and streamline multitasking capabilities on Androiddevices. By allowing users to easily minimize and re-engage with the Gemini overlay, this feature aims to make information access more convenient and efficient.
