Pixel 11 Pro Flashlight Performance Falls Short of Expectations

Google's latest flagship phones, the Pixel 11 Pro series, have been touted as a significant upgrade over their predecessors, thanks to the new Tensor G6 processor and innovative HiLight feature. However, early reviews and user experiences suggest that the Pixel 11 Pro's flashlight has taken a step back, underperforming compared to the Pixel 10 line and even the iPhone 15 Pro.

The HiLight feature, which places the flash inside the camera module, is meant to enhance low-light photography capabilities. To achieve this, a diffuser is added to soften the light. While this may benefit photography, it comes at the cost of reduced flashlight intensity. 9to5Google compared the Pixel 11 Pro XL's flashlight to the Pixel 10 Pro XL and found the older model's flash to be significantly brighter in both tests.

Reddit users have also shared their disappointment with the Pixel 11 Pro's flashlight, with some even comparing it unfavorably to a three-year-old iPhone. The images provided by 9to5Google and Reddit clearly demonstrate the diminished light output of the Pixel 11 Pro's flash.

While the HiLight feature may be a valuable addition for photographers, it seems to have come at the expense of the flashlight's functionality. Users will have to decide whether the benefits of HiLight outweigh the inconvenience of a weaker flashlight. Google may need to address this issue in future software updates to restore the Pixel 11 Pro's flashlight to a level comparable to its predecessors.
