Samsung Confirms Galaxy S23 FE Will Receive No More Major Updates

Samsung has officially stated that the Galaxy S23 FE will receive One UI 9, based on Android 17, as its final major software update. This confirmation follows a tip from Tarun Vats, who reported a conversation with Samsung regarding the device’s update timeline.

Galaxy S23 Series Reaching End of Updates

Following the pattern set by the Galaxy S22 series, the Galaxy S23 FE is nearing the end of its support cycle. The S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra, launched with Android 13 and One UI 5.1, will also not receive One UI 9.5, which is based on Android 17 and slated for launch with the Galaxy S27 next year.

Previous Update Patterns

Historically, Google would release new Android versions in the fall, followed by significant One UI updates in the early part of the subsequent year. However, this pattern shifted last year with Google launching Android 16 in June, followed by an early One UI 8 release. Samsung mirrored this approach with One UI 8.5.

Limited Future Updates for S23 Owners

While Android 17 was anticipated as the final major update, expecting an additional One UI update was a reasonable expectation. Galaxy S23 owners are unlikely to receive One UI 9.5, potentially prompting consideration of newer devices.
