Samsung floods 14 devices with one ui 8.5 beta—fold 6 feels reborn

Samsung is dumping a 4.1 GB bomb on last year’s flagships. Starting today, the One UI 8.5 beta lands on the Galaxy S24 trio, the Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, two Fan Edition phones and the Tab S11—a fourteen-device wave that turns 2024 hardware into quasi-S26 machines.

The catch: you need to live in the US, UK, Korea or India. Everyone else waits until April.

How to grab the beta right now

Open Samsung Members → Settings → Software update → Download and install. If the banner shows, you’re in. If not, keep hammering refresh; the staggered push runs through the week. Samsung warns that some features will vanish on lower-tier models, so don’t expect the Fold’s new desktop-grade multitasking on an S24 FE.

Once inside, the changelog reads like a wish list. Bixby drops the robotic stutter and speaks in full paragraphs, hunting down Settings toggles you can’t even name. The Gallery app now lets you stack AI edits—add a moon, erase a photobomber, re-light the scene, all without hitting “save” until you’re happy. Quick Share grows teeth: it can auto-detect faces in a shot and push the file only to devices logged into your Samsung account. Creepy? Efficient? Both.

Fold 6 owners get the biggest facelift

Unfold the phone and the taskbar borrows DeX logic: drag-and-drop between three floating apps, resize with corner anchors, snap a window to half-screen without reaching for the edge. Partial screen recording finally arrives—no more cropping your TikTok out of a full 7.6-inch capture. Battery stats dive deeper, showing which fold/unfold cycle sucked the most juice.

Smaller touches matter just as much. The lock-screen clock now wraps around your dog’s portrait like a halo. Alarms pull live weather data and flash a foggy backdrop if you’re waking into mist. Auracast broadcasting is one swipe away, letting the Fold 6 pipe gym audio to every Galaxy Bud in a 30-meter radius.

Samsung’s beta track record is brutal: last year’s 7.1 build bricked some S23 units. The company swears it has “hardened” the flash process, but beta means beta—back up before you flirt.

Bottom line: if you’re on the list, the S26 magic is already in your pocket; you just have to unlock it. Everyone else can watch the April rollout and count the days until their phone feels old again.
